TripWit — Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 22, 2026

TripWit is a personal travel planning app. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data TripWit accesses, how it is used, and how you can control it.

Summary: TripWit works fully offline with no account required. Cloud sync is entirely optional and only activates when you choose to sign in with Google or Apple.

No Account Required

TripWit works without any account. All your trips are stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework and optionally synced across your Apple devices via iCloud (controlled by your device settings). You do not need to sign in to use any core feature of the app.

Optional Sign-In & Cloud Sync

TripWit offers optional Google and Apple sign-in, which enable cross-platform sync between the iOS app and the TripWit web app at tripwit.app. This feature is opt-in and does the following:

If you never sign in, no data ever leaves your device (other than via Apple's iCloud, which is governed by Apple's own privacy policy).

Account Deletion

If you have signed in, you can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will permanently delete all your synced trip data from our servers and sign you out. Trips stored locally on your device are not affected.

Location Data

TripWit requests access to your device location only when you use the "I'm Here" button to add a stop at your current position, or when using nearby suggestions. Location data is used to:

Your device's live location is never stored or transmitted to any server. If you have added GPS coordinates to a stop and you are signed in, those stop coordinates are included in the synced trip data as described above.

Photo Library

TripWit can access your photo library to match photos to trip stops based on GPS metadata and the date your photo was taken. All photo matching happens entirely on your device. No photos are uploaded or transmitted anywhere.

Calendar

TripWit can optionally add your trip days to your device calendar. This requires your permission and only writes events to the calendar you choose — it does not read or modify your existing calendar entries.

Health Data

TripWit can optionally read your step count from Apple Health to display daily activity totals alongside your itinerary. Health data is read-only, displayed locally, and never transmitted to any server.

Weather Data

TripWit fetches weather forecasts from the Open-Meteo API using your trip destination's coordinates. Only geographic coordinates are sent — no personal information. Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather API. Their privacy policy is available at open-meteo.com/en/terms.

AI Features

On supported devices, TripWit can use Apple's on-device intelligence to suggest places to visit. All AI processing happens entirely on your device. No data is sent to any cloud AI service by TripWit.

Third-Party Services

When you use optional sign-in and sync, TripWit uses the following third-party services:

Data We Do Not Collect

Children's Privacy

TripWit does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The core app requires no personal information. If a child uses optional sign-in, a parent or guardian should supervise the process.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
